What Is Women Empowered®?

Women Empowered® is the official Gracie Jiu-Jitsu self-defense program tailored specifically for women. In this 15-lesson course, you'll master 20 essential techniques designed to neutralize common attacks, from hair grabs to being pinned by an assailant. The program emphasizes leverage, technique, and timing, making it effective regardless of age or athletic ability. Beyond physical defense, it instills an empowerment mindset, reinforcing that you are worth defending.

What You’ll Learn

20 Essential Techniques

Learn to defend against the most common attack strategies identified by law enforcement and survivors, including hair grabs, choke holds, bear hugs, and weapon defenses.

The Empowerment Mindset

Develop awareness principles, risk assessment skills, and verbal and psychological strategies to set safe boundaries, even with acquaintances. At the core is the belief that you are worth defending.

Step 1: Learn the Techniques

Complete the 20 techniques over 15 one-hour classes at your own pace. Start anytime and attend lessons in any order, with progress tracked on your Women Empowered® attendance card.

Step 2: Develop Your Reflexes

After completing each lesson once, join Reflex Development (RD) classes to combine techniques and address real self-defense scenarios.

Step 3: Earn Your Pink Belt

Upon completing each lesson four times and at least eight RD classes, you're eligible to test for the Women Empowered® Pink Belt—a symbol of your dedication and skill, preparing you for advanced programs like Gracie Combatives®.
