36 Essential Techniques
Learn the 36 core techniques identified by the Gracie Family as the most effective in real-world self-defense situations. These techniques form the foundation of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and are taught in a structured, easy-to-follow manner.
Step 1: Learn the Techniques
The 36 techniques are divided into 23 one-hour classes, allowing you to complete the program at your own pace. Each lesson is designed so you can start at any point without prior experience and complete the classes in any order. Upon enrolling, you'll receive a Gracie Combatives attendance card to track your progress.
Step 2: Develop Your Reflexes
After completing each of the 23 lessons twice, you'll qualify for Reflex Development (RD) classes. These sessions teach you to combine techniques and address common scenarios in real fights, enhancing your reflexes and confidence.
Step 3: Earn Your Combatives Belt
Once you've completed each lesson three times and attended at least 12 RD classes, you're eligible to test for your Gracie Combatives Belt. The 60-minute test assesses your ability to execute the 36 techniques individually and in combination. Passing this test qualifies you for promotion and allows you to advance to the Master Cycle program.
