+ What is the difference between Jiu-Jitsu and every other martial art?

Jiu-Jitsu is designed to empower the weak against the strong and there are no physical pre-requisites to get started. Literally, ANYONE can learn Jiu-Jitsu especially when taught the Gracie Way!

+ What if I don’t have any previous experience?

No problem! Our beginner programs are specifically designed, from a structure and a safety perspective, for first-time Jiu-Jitsu practitioners, which is why we are an officially Certified Training Center (CTC)® of Gracie University® with Certified Instructors.

+ Do I need to be in shape?

No, we love you exactly how you are. You don't need to get in shape to learn Jiu-Jitsu, but by learning Jiu-Jitsu you will get into shape!

+ What should I wear?

Just show up in comfortable workout attire and we'll provide everything you need. No special training equipment or protective gear is required.

+ Do I need to bow or call someone “sensei?”

No, this is not Cobra Kai. We operate on a first-name basis and a friendly greeting.

+ Can I bring a water bottle, and where do I store it?

Yes, you can bring a water bottle and store it near the edge of the training area. We also have a hands-free, sensor-activated water bottle filling station for when you need to refill with freshly filtered drinking water.

+ Where will I put my personal belongings?

We have fitting room stalls and washrooms for you to change into your training uniform. You can then store your personal belongings safely and securely in any of the available cubbies, coat hangers, and shoe racks.

+ Who will I practice with?

As a first-time student, we will pair you up with a slightly more experienced student who can answer your questions and help guide your learning throughout the class.

+ Will I get injured or embarrassed?

If you get injured or embarrassed you won't come back. Everything about our beginner programs are specifically designed to make our classes as safe and encouraging for new students as possible.

+ Can I bring a friend or family member to class?

Yes. Referrals are encouraged, just make sure you come together with your friend or family member on their first day so they feel more comfortable. Jiu-Jitsu is so fun and engaging that people can't help but talk about it with everyone they know!

Feel free to bring anyone to the beginner classes you attend by contacting us in advance and reserving your spot together.

+ How long are classes?

Most of our classes are 60 minutes in duration and are always led by a Gracie University® ICP-Certified Instructor.

+ How will my first class go?

If you’re a new student visiting our school for the first time, we recommend you arrive 20 minutes early for your orientation and walkthrough.

All students are required to sign up and pre-register for classes online from our schedule page.

+ How do I sign up and pre-register for a class?
